Founder
Dr. Barilee Abueh Idemudia, an Internal Medicine physician in training at the University at Buffalo, is the visionary behind the Heart and Sight Rescue Initiative (HSRI). Her journey began with a career in optometry, providing essential eye care to underserved populations in Ghana and Nigeria. During this time, she witnessed the devastating impact of preventable blindness on individuals and families, sparking a desire to expand her reach and address broader health challenges.
Determined to make a greater difference, Dr. Idemudia pursued her medical degree, where she discovered a deep passion for cardiology. Her dual expertise in eye health and cardiovascular medicine inspired her to launch HSRI—a nonprofit organization focused on combating the twin burdens of heart disease and vision loss in underserved communities.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Idemudia is a multifaceted individual with a range of interests that reflect her creativity and dedication to personal growth. She is an avid photographer, specializing in nature, newborn, and wedding photography, which sharpens her attention to detail and fuels her artistic spirit. She also enjoys event planning, travel coordination, and home organization, showcasing her natural ability to strategize and bring ideas to life.
Dr. Idemudia’s philosophy is simple but profound: every person deserves the chance to live a full and healthy life. With her unwavering dedication to health equity, she continues to inspire others to reimagine what’s possible in healthcare, one heart and one vision at a time.

Team Lead
Dr. Angela Koomson, an internal medicine physician hailing from Ghana, brings a wealth of expertise and compassion to the Heart and Sight Rescue Initiative. Trained at prestigious institutions including Medstar Georgetown/Washington Hospital Center, St. George's School of Medicine, and Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Koomson is driven by a profound commitment to enhancing the well-being of underserved communities.
With a multifaceted approach encompassing medicine, social impact projects, education, and advocacy, Dr. Koomson works tirelessly to uplift the quality of life in areas lacking adequate healthcare resources. Her dedication extends beyond clinical practice, as she actively engages in initiatives aimed at empowering individuals and fostering sustainable change.
Outside of her medical endeavors, Dr. Koomson finds solace in the simplicity of gardening and the challenge of puzzles, reflecting a balanced and holistic approach to life. Her unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes and her unwavering pursuit of excellence make Dr. Koomson an invaluable asset to the Heart and Sight Rescue Initiative, embodying the spirit of compassion and service at the heart of our mission.

Team Lead
Dr Amobi Maureen is a Medical Director/ Lead Optometrist at Cronnet Eye Clinic and a graduate of Doctor Of Optometry (OD).
She has a strong passion for touching lives both personally and professionally. Her passion has geared her towards creating awareness on preventable blindness and the need for accessible eye care all over the world. she has a keen interest in not seeing little villagers lose their sight due to a lack of information.
She strongly believes everyone deserves access to quality eye care irrespective of status. Her mission is to ensure that status does not determine blindness or loss of vision. Therefore, reaching out to communities and nations, and spreading the vision with like minds to achieve sustainable eye care for all is her core value.​

Team Lead
Dr. Adaeze Odigwe Ekekwe is a Resident doctor at the University of Toronto Canada, which is undoubtedly the best medical institution in Canada and ranked among the top 5 best medical research institutions in the world and 2nd best science university ranking strongly behind Harvard University, she works in the geneology department at the Universit Toronto where she allocates a portion of her time in Genodermatology research and focused research on major aesthetic skin conditions that affect the Black population and innovative treatment options based on practical and clinical medicine. she completed a global health program at Harvard University and has won several awards including Leadership and Philanthropy awards of Excellence.
She is also the CEO of Daizaura Skincare Canada- a global platform that focuses on improving cosmetic skin conditions by bringing to fruition a unique combination of practical knowledge in genetic medicine and dermatology.

Dr Adaeze Odigwe Ekekwe continues to be a trailblazer in this generation, making big strides in these medical fields thereby enriching the Black population.
