World Glaucoma Week: Glaucoma Awareness and Screening Initiative

In honor of World Glaucoma Week, the Heart and Sight Rescue Initiative (HSRI), in partnership with the Nigerian Airforce Mother and Child Hospital, launched a comprehensive glaucoma awareness and screening campaign across multiple locations in Badagry, Nigeria. This project was dedicated to educating communities about glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness, and providing early detection services to prevent vision loss.

The program included educational sessions, free glaucoma screenings, and counselling at key organizations such as the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, Nigerian French Language Village, Nigerian Customs Service, Naval Forward Operations Base, Nigerian Army Barracks, and the Nigerian Airforce Mother and Child Hospital. Attendees received vital information on the importance of early detection and management of glaucoma to preserve their vision.

To further amplify the campaign’s reach, HSRI collaborated with Dr. Akinfe, a consultant ophthalmologist, for an engaging session on Wazobia TV on March 18, 2017. The broadcast educated viewers across Nigeria about glaucoma’s impact and emphasized the importance of proactive eye care.

This initiative showcased HSRI’s unwavering commitment to combating preventable blindness through education, early detection, and community engagement, leaving a lasting impact on the fight against glaucoma in Nigeria.
