The Heart and Sight Rescue Initiative (HSRI) launched its impactful outreach program with this project, which later expanded to become the Heart and Sight Rescue Initiative (HSRI). This inaugural outreach saw many individuals receiving comprehensive eye care. Free pairs of reading glasses were distributed, along with medications and treatments for various conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis, ocular inflammation, dry eye, and glaucoma.
Specialized referrals were made for cases of diabetic retinopathy, macular scars, and glaucoma, while five individuals were booked for free cataract surgeries. This effort highlighted the significance of early detection, with 84% of blindness causes being avoidable. The project marked a successful beginning for HSRI, paving the way for its growth into HSRI, which now integrates heart health with sight care, continuing its mission to prevent avoidable blindness and improve overall health outcomes.
